Discrimination
and Harassment Policy
All employees and members have a right to work, volunteer and participate in
activities in an
environment that asserts
the personal worth and dignity of each individual.
This policy covers
discrimination based on race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin,
citizenship, religion, sex,
sexual orientation, age, record of offences, marital status, family status, the
receipt of public assistance,
mental or physical disability, union or non-union membership, or political
affiliation.
In order to achieve this objective, we will not tolerate any form of
discrimination and/or harassment in its
employment or programs. Every member of our community has the right to file a
complaint of
discrimination/harassment with the board.
The board recognize their responsibility to deal quickly, fairly, and effectively with harassment and discrimination should it arise and does not condone harassment in its operations.
While individuals are encouraged to seek advice and counsel regarding possible
violations of this policy, it is requested that the confidential nature of the
complaint be maintained throughout the process by any person(s) with knowledge
of the complaint, to that end the boards will handle all such complaints in a
confidential manner.
Harassment includes offensive, intimidating, demeaning, hurtful, malicious or threatening comments or conduct towards another person. Discrimination is unequal treatment based on the areas listed above. Sexual harassment is unwelcome sexual attention or demands from another person.
